15 Keyboard Shortcuts Everyone Should Know

Typing on a computer keyboardHow important are keyboard shortcuts? Can’t you simply use a mouse for everything? Shortcuts are called that for a reason — they save time. And since most people seem completely unaware of most of the best time-saving shortcuts on the PC, I’ve rounded up the best ones for you today.
Ctrl+F for Find
Let’s start with one of the most useful keyboard shortcuts of all: Ctrl+F. A few of you out there are now rolling your eyes, but you shouldn’t be — a Google employee has data showing 90 percent of people never use the Ctrl+F keyboard shortcut.
Press Ctrl+F in almost any application — your Web browser, for example — and you can start typing to find text in the page or document. Yes, most of the people appear to simply skim webpages to find what they’re looking for just as they would on a paper document, rather than using the far more efficient search.
Ctrl-F is for more than just browsers, though. I’ve even seen it work in applications that don’t expose a “Find” option in their menus — it’s like a secret keyboard shortcut that can get you straight to an application’s search function, whether it appears to have one. (Mac users use the Command key instead of the Ctrl key.)
The Ctrl-F find dialog on Google Chrome
Basic Navigation
Alt+Tab should be a pretty well known keyboard shortcut by now, but did you know that you can use Ctrl+Tab to cycle between open tabs in your browser? Ctrl+Shift+Tab cycles in reverse. This is basically an Alt+Tab for Web browsers or other applications with tab-based interfaces.
Speaking of browser tabs, you can press Ctrl+T to quickly open a new one — this focuses the address bar, so you can immediately start typing a search or web address. To focus the address bar on your current tab, press Ctrl+L. To close the current tab, press Ctrl+W. (Mac users use Command instead of Ctrl for most of these shortcuts, although Ctrl+Tab is the same on a Mac.)
Copy, Cut, and Paste Text
Don’t forget that Ctrl+C for copy, Ctrl+X for Cut, and Ctrl+V for Paste are critical shortcuts for working with selected text. It’s much faster to select some text with your mouse, press Ctrl+X, click somewhere in a document, and then press Ctrl+V than it is to click the Cut and Paste menus with your mouse.
These are also considered fairly basic keyboard shortcuts, but I’ve seen people use Microsoft Office entirely with the mouse, using the keyboard only to type words and reaching for the mouse whenever they wanted to copy or paste text. That just takes longer.
Many useful keyboard shortcuts make it easier to work with text — another one is Ctrl+Z, which is “undo.” It undoes the last change, allowing you to quickly revert a change without reaching for the mouse.
computer keyboard
Quickly Move Between Words
The arrow keys allow you to move the cursor around a field of text — that’s Desktop Computing 101. But did you know that the Ctrl key can speed this up dramatically? For example, you can hold Ctrl and tap the left arrow once to go to the beginning of the previous word. Tap it multiple times to quickly move back from word to word, or tap the forward key to go to the next word.
This allows you to move your cursor much more quickly, so you don’t need to hold down the arrow key, wait for the cursor to scroll through all the digits, and try to release it at the correct time. Ctrl works similarly with the Up and Down arrow keys, quickly moving your cursor from paragraph to paragraph.
Select Text
Hold the Shift key while using other arrow keys to select text. For example, you can hold Shift and press the left arrow three times to select the previous three characters. Or, you can press Shift+Ctrl+Left to quickly select the previous word, tapping the left arrow to select more words. This also works with the up and down arrow keys, allowing you to select multiple lines quickly.
Once you have text selected, you can copy or cut it with the keyboard shortcuts above. With these shortcuts, you can write and edit a document or email directly from your keyboard, keeping your hands on your keyboard for maximum typing speed — no need to move a hand over to the mouse. And, while we’re at it, Ctrl+A will select all the text in the current document or text field.
This isn’t a complete list — far from it. If you want to do something, there’s a good chance the software you use includes a keyboard shortcut for doing it. Look up the keyboard shortcuts that will benefit you most so you can save time and get things done faster!

Soyinka blasts Obasanjo …says ex-President is a liar

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed shock at the contents of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial autobiography titled, My Watch. Soyinka, in a piece titled, ‘Watch And Pray, Watch And Prey’, described Obasanjo as an expert in telling lies and a shameless man. Soyinka is one of the personalities the former President slammed in the three-volume controversial book which an Abuja court ordered security agencies to confiscate wherever it is being sold. He described the literary icon as a misfit, a better wine connoisseur and a guinea fowl hunter in the book. “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct no matter what they do or fail to do. He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic, ” Obasanjo wrote. But, Soyinka who, by the tone of his piece did not find Obasanjo comment funny, said, “I despise that species of humanity whose stock-in-trade is to concoct lies simply to score a point, win an argument, puff up his or her own ego, denigrate or attempt to destroy a fellow being. “However, even within such deplorable species, a special pit of universal opprobrium is surely reserved for those who even lack the courage of their own lies, but must foist them on others.” He also took a swipe at the former President for openly condemning his former Special Adviser, Mr. Akin Osuntokun, who is “young enough to be his son.” The playwright said, “For now, let me single out just one of the most glaring instances of this man’s compulsive career of lying, one sample that the media can readily check upon and use as a touchstone – if they do need one – in assessing our author’s multifaceted claims and commentaries on people and events. “I refer here to the grotesque and personally insulting statement that he has attributed to me for some inscrutable but obviously diversionary reasons. “In the process, this past Master of Mendacity brazenly implicates an innocent young man, Akin Osuntokun, who once served him as a special adviser. Instead of conferring dignity on a direct rebuttal of an ignoble fabrication, I shall simply make a personal, all-embracing attestation: “When an old man stuffs a lie into the throat of an age-mate of his own children –omo inu e!– we can only pity an irredeemable egomaniac whose dotage is headed for twilight disgrace.” The literary icon also revisited the controversial Obasanjo Presidential library, saying it was acquired through ‘executive extortionism’ just as President Goodluck Jonathan recently got over N21bn at a dinner/fund-raiser last Saturday. He noted that both Jonathan and Obasanjo were leaders known for impunity. Soyinka said, “That obscene proceeding (Obasanjo’s Library Fund-raising) has certainly set a competitive precedent for impunity in President Jonathan’s recent fund-raising shindig, editorialised inThe PUNCH(Dec. 23, 2014) as Impunity Taken too Far. “So much for the latest from that direction – we mustn’t allow Handing-Over notes between presidents to distract us for too long.” He said Obasanjo had no right to take the moral high ground. Soyinka added that Obasanjo loved to call on the name of God but his actions implied that he probably did not believe in God’s existence. He urged Nigerians to be careful about taking heed to the advice of Obasanjo as the former President was very deceptive. Soyinka wrote, “In this season of goodwill, we owe a duty to our immediate and distant neighbours: CAVEAT EMPTOR! Let all beware, who try to buy a Rolex from this indefatigable watch peddler,” he said. “Our author invokes God tirelessly, without provocation, without necessity and without justification, perhaps pre-emptively, but does he really believe in such an entity? Does our home-bred Double-O-Seven believe in anything outside his own Omnipotence? “Could he possibly have mistaken the Christian exhortation – ‘Watch and Pray’ for his private inclination to “Watch and Prey?” He maintained that Obasanjo’s book was written in a deceitful manner such that he took credit for the good deeds of others and then blamed others for his own failure. “This is a seasoned predator on others’ achievements – he preys on their names, their characters, their motivations, their true lives, preys on gossip and preys on facts, preys on contributions to collective undertakings…..even preys on their identities, substituting his own where possible,” Soyinka said. Soyinka compared Obasanjo to a creature inIgbo Olodumare,a novel written by the late Daniel Fagunwa. Although he did not mention Obasanjo’s name while making comparisons, he said only one man could fit into that description. He said, “The seventh (creature) is not among those who set out to improve the world but rather to cause distress to its inhabitants. It was through manipulations that he attained a high position. Having achieved this however, he constantly blocked the progress of those behind him, this being a most deplorable act in the eyes of God, and rank behaviour in the judgment of the dwellers of heaven – that anyone who has enjoyedupliftmentin life should seek to be an obstacle for those who follow him. “This man forgot the beings of earth, forgot the beings of heaven, in turn, he forgot the presence of God. The worst kind of behaviour agitated his hands – greed occupied the centre of his heart, and he was a creature that walked in darkness. “This man wallowed in bribery, he was chairman of the circle of scheming, head of the gang of double-dealing, field-marshal of those who crept about in the dark of night. With his mouth, he ruined the work of others, while he used a big potsherd to cover the good works of some, that others might not see their attainments. “He nosed around for secrets that would entrap his companions, and blew them up into monumental crimes in the eyes of the world. He who turns the world upside down, places the deceitful on the throne, casts the truthful down – because such is a being of base earth, he will never stand as equal among the uplifted.” Source: punchng.com

4 Natural Remedies That Work For Sagging Breasts

Check out a few remedies to get firm, perky boobs. 4 Natural Remedies That Work For Sagging Breasts   (plasticsurgeryminneapolis.com) Sagging breasts are something ladies deal with. Breasts sag when they lose their elasticity, sometimes boobs just have their own way but the truth is sagging boobs are not in the least desirable. We love them perky. These naturalhome remedieshave been proven to help sagging breast, if you think this is you then by all means try out any of these four remedies. 1. Ice Massage Ice massage is considered very effective to regain firmness in sagging breasts and can help uplift them. The cold temperature will cause the tissue to contract, in turn making the breasts appear firmer and more lifted. Take two ice cubes and massage them in circular motions around each of your breasts for one minute only. Dry the breasts with a soft towel and immediately put on a proper fitting bra. Stay in a reclining position for 30 minutes. Do this at regular intervals throughout the day. Note: Do not expose your breasts to ice for more than 1 minute at a time as it can cause numbness. 2. Olive Oil Massaging your breasts with olive oil is an excellent technique to firm-up sagging breasts. Olive oil is a rich source of antioxidants and fatty acids that can reverse the damage caused by free radicals and prevent sagging breasts. Plus, it will help improve the skin tone and texture. Put some olive oil onto your palms and rub them together to generate heat. Rub your palms over your breasts in an upward motion. Massage gently for about 15 minutes to increase blood flow and stimulate cell repair. Follow this remedy at least four or five times per week. You can also use almond, argan, avocado or jojoba oil to massage your breasts. 3. Cucumber and Egg Yolk Another excellent remedy for lifting the breasts is a mask prepared from cucumber and egg yolk. Cucumber has natural skin-toning properties and egg yolk has high levels of protein and vitamins that can help treat sagging breasts. Puree one small cucumber in a blender. Mix with one egg yolk and one teaspoon of butter or cream to get a paste. Apply it onto your breasts and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Wash it off thoroughly with cold water. Use this mask once a week to firm and strengthen the breast tissues. 4. Egg White Egg white is also good for treating sagging breasts because of its astringent and skin-nourishing properties. The hydro lipids present in egg white helps lift loose skin around your breasts. Beat one egg white until you get a foamy texture. Apply this onto your breasts and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Wash it off with cucumber or onion juice and then with cold water. You can also prepare a breast mask by mixing one egg white with one tablespoon each of plain yogurt and honey. Apply it onto your breasts and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. Follow either of these remedies once a week to enjoy firm breasts

How to Get a Six-Pack in a Month

A lot of people desire a flat sleek set of abs. However, a six-pack is not easy to come by; it takes a lot of work. If a washboard stomach is what you seek and you only have a month to get it, get ready for the workout of your life.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Table

Instructions

    • 1
Start eating healthy, smart, well-balanced meals. Drink a lot of water before your workout to keep hydrated. Warm up your body with a short cardio workout (about 10 minutes) of running, jogging, jumping rope or dancing. Lay on the floor and do a set of 50 regular crunches. Then stand up and do five more minutes of cardio.
    • 2
Sit on the floor and bring your knees in to your chest. Extend your legs straight up and your arms up by your ears so you are in a V-position. Hold this position for eight counts. Lower your body down so your arms and legs are almost touching the floor in a full body extended position, legs straight out and hovering above the floor and arms extended over your head, also hovering above the floor. Hold for eight counts. Lift your body back up to the V-position, then lower down to the hovering position. Repeat 10 times.
    • 3
Go back to your seated position with your knees pulled into your chest. Extend your legs out straight, close to the ground without touching and lower your upper body at the same time. Bring them back together with your ab muscles. You are not allowed at any time to use your hands. This means you can't touch your legs to pull them in or the ground. They simply stay out to the side, hovering above the ground. Do 30 sets of the crunching in and extending out.
    • 4
Roll over on your stomach and place your hands under your shoulders. Push your arms straight and lift your trunk up to stretch your back and stomach. It's important to stretch your stomach muscles so they don't all clump up and pop out. You want a six-pack, but you want it to be flat and clean lines. Then roll back on your back and do 50 side-to-side crunches where you reach to the left as you rise up, then to the right the next time you rise up. It switches sides each time.
    • 5
Sit on top of a table. Place your derriere right next to the edge and have your back facing the edge. Extend your legs straight across the table. Have a friend or workout partner sit on your legs to keep you still. Let your body hang over the edge of the table. Place your arms across your chest. Using only your abs, lift your body up to a full sit-up, then slowly lower down to the hanging position. Repeat 30 times. Do these exercises one to two times each day to get six-pack abs in a month.

How to Make Your Hair Grow Really fast

Most girls and women desire long, luxurious hair. Sometimes after a bad haircut, or when a toddler has had one second of unsupervised time and scissors, you'll want to grow it out fast. Whatever the reason, some good methods will make your hair grow really fast.
How to Make Your Hair Grow Really Fast thumbnail

Instructions

  • 1
Get your hair trimmed to get rid of any split ends. If your hair is layered, have it cut so it is all one length. Getting rid of split ends will make your hair healthier and stronger, and that means hair that will grow really fast.
  • 2
Increase blood flow to your head to stimulate your hair follicles. Lean forward with your head down and use a boar bristle brush, brushing from root to tip. Brush your hair like this once a day. You can increase blood flow with daily exercise and by massaging (while you're shampooing) the scalp with your fingernails.
  • 3
Eat a healthy diet including a daily multivitamin. Only healthy hair can grow fast. Hair uses vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as the minerals iron and zinc. Add some foods rich in these minerals and vitamins such as red meat, fish, broccoli, apricots, spinach, potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, melons, citrus, nuts and whole grains.
  • 4
Relax with daily meditation. When you are stressed your hair will not grow fast. Meditate every day for at least 30 minutes a day or longer.
  • 5
Sleep well. A good night's sleep isn't just about getting enough sleep, it's also about getting quality sleep. Most people can function well off of seven to 10 hours of sleep a night. Your perfect sleep time is somewhere around there and you'll feel the difference when you get too little or too much sleep. To increase the quality of your sleep, keep a routine. Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning, even on the weekends.
  • 6
Stay clean. Shampoo your hair at least every other day to keep your scalp and roots from getting oily and dirty. Clean hair will grow faster than oily hair. Use some soap and warm water to wash your hair brushes at least once a month. Staying clean also means not using hair products such as hairsprays, gels and mousses.
  • 7
Avoid hair dryers, curling irons, straightening irons, hair dye and perms. Any unnecessary heat or chemicals in your hair is not healthy.
  • 8
Use a weekly oil treatment for your hair if it is really dry. If you have normal hair you can use an oil treatment once a month. If your hair is a little oily you can just use this treatment once every three months. An oil treatment will help keep your hair healthy, shiny and strong. Leave it in overnight with a scarf or nightcap on.

How to Tie a Four in Hand Knot

    Viewing 1 of 8
There are several tie knots out there to try, such as the Windsor knot, Eldredge knot and Balthus knot. If you're just starting to learn how to tie a tie you should stick to a basic knot, and the four-in-hand knot is about as basic as they come. If you only learn one tie knot, this is a good choice.
    2)Get the Length Right
Make sure the wide end of your tie is longer than the narrow end. You might have to experiment depending on how tall you are, but the narrow end should normally end a few inches above your belly button
3)Wide Over NarrowAround the BackPull the wide end across the narrow end.
4)Around the BackWrap the wide end around the back of the narrow end and across the front once more.
    5) Come Up From the BackPull the wide end up through the back of the knot in the space between your neck and the knot
6)Thread Through the LoopPull the wide end through the front of the knot by making a small loop with your fingers
7)Pull and TightenGently pull down on the short end while moving the knot up towards your collar.
8)AdjustAdjust as needed and make sure the wide end comes down to your belt buckle, but not past it.by Akinlade olaitan

Types of Braids & How to Do Them

    intro
When it comes to styling hair with a braid, you have a number of options. In addition to making a single braid, two braids or many small braids to cover your head, you can choose between the basic three-strand braid and more elaborate braids such as the fishtail or French braids.

    English Braid

The most simple braid, the English braid, involves weaving three strands of hair together. To make a basic braid, divide all of a person's hair into three equally sized sections. You'll have a middle section and sections to the right and left of the center. Start the braid by bringing the left section over the middle section, so that the left is now in the middle and what was the middle section is now on the left. Bring the right section of hair over the middle section, so that it is now in the middle and the middle section is now on the right. Bring the left section over the middle, then the right section over the middle. Continue braiding until only about 2 or 3 inches of hair remains, then tie off the braid with a hair elastic or ribbon.

Divide hair into two sections and divide each section into three equally sized sections to make braided pigtails.

    Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid earns its name because the finished style resembles the texture of a fish's scales. Unlike the basic braid, the fishtail only uses two sections of hair. Split your hair into two sections, parting it down the center. At the nape of your neck, bring a small amount of hair, no thicker than a 1/2 inch, from the right section over to the left. Bring a 1/2 inch section of hair over from the left to the right. Continue to bring 1/2 inch sections of hair over from right to left and left to right until you have only a few inches of hair left at the bottom. Secure the ends of the braid with a hair elastic

Boko Haram kills 35 in attacks on threee villages

KANO (AFP) – Boko Haram gunmen killed 35 people in attacks on three villages inNigeria‘s restive northeast Borno state near the border with Cameroon, a military source and residents said Thursday. Dozens of Boko Haram gunmen dressed in military uniform stormed Gumushi, Amuda and Arbokko in all-terrain trucks and motorcycles, opening fire on residents and torching homes with petrol bombs, they said. “Boko Haram attacked the three villages Wednesday morning in which 35 people were killed, including 26 in Gumushi,” a military officer in the state capital Maiduguri told AFP on condition of anonymity. “The insurgents hurled petrol bombs into homes, setting them ablaze and shot residents as they tried to escape,” he said. He said the gunmen raided Gumushi around 6:00 am (0500 GMT) where they killed 26 residents. Local media however put the death toll in Gumushi at 42. Witnesses said the gunmen also launched coordinated attacks on the neighbouring farming villages of Amuda and Arbokko, 125 kilometres from Maiduguri, killing nine people and destroying scores of houses. “The attackers came at 2:00am (01:00 GMT) when people were asleep and went about throwing Molotov cocktails into homes which exploded and set fire,” resident Pirda Takweshe told AFP. “They then opened fire on people as they ran out of their homes, killing nine and injuring 13 others”. Boko Haram which means “Western education is forbidden”, has stepped up deadly raids in northeastNigeriain recent months, pillaging and burning entire villages and killing residents as part of its five-year-old campaign to establish an Islamic state in the north. Violence blamed on the Islamist group has killed thousands since 2009. News of the latest deadly raids came on the same day asNigeria‘s President Goodluck Jonathan vowed a “total war against terrorism”

Jonathan declares amnesty for Boko Haram members -Minister

Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna, on Thursday disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan has announced amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect as parts of his administration’s youths-friendly programmes and policies. Haruna disclosed this while giving an overview of youth’s position in the present administration’s transformation agenda at a special event tagged “A day with young leaders of Nigeria” to mark the nation’s Democracy Day in Abuja. The minister said series of integration programmes have been lined up for members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace. He therefore called on them to embrace the government’s gesture. The minister said, “President Goodluck Jonathan has also declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. “Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace. “Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Federal Government, to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key to amnesty programme.” He recalled that in the wake of youth restiveness in the Niger Delta, the government came up with a development programme which provided an opportunity for the youth to express themselves and have a meaningful life. Haruna said although the amnesty programme was a fallout of a bitter national security, its effect on the youth had been profound. He disclosed that 30,000 youths have benefitted from the programme which has seen beneficiaries transforming from militants to wealth creators, employers of labour and skilled citizens. Jonathan, while answering questions from youths who attended the programme, said military alone was incapable of stopping terrorism or any kind of radicalism. He said terrorism could not succeed in any community without local supports. He stressed the need for people who are respected by the insurgents to join hands with government to persuade them to desist. The President said, “Terror succeeds with local support. It will be difficult for terror to thrive where people reject it. It is a major challenge to all of us. “Military alone cannot stop terror or any radicalism. Terrorists have people they respect, they have community, traditional and opinion leaders they respect. All of us can deradicalise them. “We will through persuasive activities encourage people to shun violence.” He said his government was already working out the modalities for reintroducing moral education into school curriculum. This, he said, would assist in re-orientation the young people in order to distinguish between right and wrong things. Jonathan promised that his administration would continue to encourage young people because they are no longer leaders of tomorrow but of today. He said youths are already leading because they decide who rules at all levels of government by virtue of their population which he put at 60 per cent of the electorates. The President also reiterated his position that the nation’s income distribution was skewed. While saying that government was working hard to redistribute wealth, he added that one of the emphasis of the government is to encourage self-employment. Responding to a question on the need to have a youth as the Minister of Youth Development, Jonathan said “the best person to take care of a child may not necessarily be a child.” He added that the young ones needed to tap from the experiences of older ones. He also stressed the need for political parties to give women more opportunities. The event which was held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja was nearly marred by interruption in power supply. The ugly incident occurred at the time Jonathan mounted the podium to present a compendium of his administration’s achievements in the last one year and answer questions from youths who attended the event. Jonathan remained standing in front of the participants with his security aides for about 15 minutes while the power failure caused by the generating set being used lasted. He was at the verge of returning to his seat to give organisers time to rectify the fault when power was finally restored. President of the Senate, David Mark; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, were among dignitaries who were conspicuously absent at the special event. Among former Heads of State, only the former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, attended the event. He was joined by a former Vice President, Chief Alex Ekwueme; and a former Chief of General Staff, Oladipo Diya. Jonathan attended the event alongside his wife, Patience; Vice President Namadi Sambo; and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Maryam Mukhtar. The tone for the event was set by the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed, who narrated the circumstances leading to his appointment as a minister at a young age of 33. The event featured the presentation of the third anniversary of the present administration’s transformation agenda in book form by the President, a video documentary of the third anniversary of the transformation agenda and the launching of Youth Entrepreneurial Mentorship and Empowerment Scheme among others. Highlight of the event also included a motivational talk by the Chief Executive Officer, Mara Foundation, Mr. Ashish Takker, said to be the youngest African billionaire

Shoki is a dance that is in vogue at the moment.  I got the inspiration for the song a couple of weeks ago while hanging out with a group of friends at Fela’s shrine in Lagos.  I saw some people dancing and when I asked, they told me it was Shoki, a new dance.  The following day, I went into the studio and recorded the song.  The record was released on March 27, a day before my birthday and the acceptance has been very encouraging.
Do you have a full album out?
No, but the demand for an album has been increasing daily and I am going to drop an album very soon. I have always had songs that could make an album. At the moment, we have close to 100 recorded songs.  A large percentage of music lovers are tuned to Orezi at the moment and that is a sign for me to drop an album.
What satisfaction do you get from your art?
It is a growing process. Each single I drop is always better than the last one. From ‘Booty bounce’ to ‘Rihanna’ and ‘YouGarrit’, the acceptance has been very encouraging.  ‘Rihanna’ is my biggest song, judging from awards, acceptance and U-Tube views it has received. It fetched me three awards and I am hoping to win more.
Do you think making an album is going to be more financially rewarding than producing singles?
In Nigeria, artistes do not make money from albums.  This is due to the fact that it involves making arrangement with marketers for a pay off or percentage of proceeds from the album sales.   Most Nigerian artistes usually settle for pay off   which may not exceed N5m at most.  An album cost more than N5m to produce.   But albums increase acceptance, popularity and fan base, which is where the money comes from.
How long have you been singing?
Professionally, I have been singing since 2009.  But I have always been a music lover right from the university.  I recorded a song during my 300 level. After I graduated from the university, I decided to embrace a career in music and the first person I sang with was Dr. Fabz.
How are you faring in the music business?
Before now, I used to think I deserve more since I have put in a lot of work and I have the best videos out there.  Although I know people who came after me who are more famous than me, I still believe God’s time is the best.  The music industry in Nigeria has reached a point where everyone has a destination.  As long as one does not allow the fame of others to be a source of concern, one will excel. Sometimes, I feel depressed when I think I have been around for a while and I am yet to get to where I am supposed to get to.
How do you deal with disappointments?
In Nigeria, people are supposed to be used to disappointment. There are things that are always there to make you disappointed. I take each day as it comes and I commit everything into God’s hands.
     Tell us about your background
My name is Orezi.  Orezi means, one who is destined to be great. It is an Isoko name.  I am the first child of my parents and I have four lovely siblings.  My family is close-knit and my parents are loving and supportive. I was born in Ibadan when my parents were based there. When I was two years old, the family relocated to Lagos.  My family members are my greatest fans and biggest critics.  I respect their views because I know that they will never lie to me.  My secondary school was in the east. I am a graduate of Urban and Regional planning from the University of Lagos.
Are you planning to work with your degree?
I intend to practise. I am trying to be famous because I think it will help me in future. I don’t intend to stay too long with music though. If I have three albums, I will switch to music production and promotion.
     What inspired your song ‘YouGarrit’?
It was a spin-off from the effect of ‘Rihanna’.  After the huge success of ‘Rihanna’, I needed to do another song but I did not want to do the same thing. I wanted to do an Afrobeat, rock and jam song that people can dance to.
Is your genre strictly hip hop or do you sometimes diversify?
My music cuts across all genres.  In Nigeria, we don’t really have a genre of music that all the artistes are adopting. If I had my way, after this album, I will drop an all-reggae album because reggae is my best music.  My biggest song has been dancehall, but because I need to satisfy the Nigerian audience, I have concentrated more on Afrobeat.   I can do any kind of sound.
     Kindly describe yourself…
I am a cool person who is accommodating and that is why people like me. I like a close relationship with my fans, so I don’t have protocols around who would prevent fans from reaching me. An artiste is a man of the people. There is a way to manage a situation when fans try to abuse one’s accessibility but it does not mean they should be shut out completely.
What would make you fall in love with a lady?
Apart from the fact that she has to be pretty, I also watch out for good character. If the character is good, I may not care about the looks.  I may not even marry a pretty woman because my mother says a pretty woman belongs to more than one man.
So your girlfriend is not pretty?
    I don’t have a girlfriend
     Why?
I have a lot of female friends but I don’t have a girlfriend.  I wish I had. The thing about relationships is that you need someone who understands you and who will always be around you.  It is sweeter than being with different women. I am the kind of person who always wants to be around people I love. I grew up in a very affectionate family and I know how to give affection.
     Describe your style
I like fashion a lot. I like to be flashy and to be spotted in the crowd. I don’t like following trends because my style speaks volumes of my personality.

I can’t wear skimpy dresses again –Mercy Johnson

Any conversation that Nollywood star Mercy Johnson will have with you nowadays can hardly be complete without her making intermittent reference to her husband of three years, Odianosen Okogie. Mention his name and her face instantly lights up. Besides her exploits in Nollywood, she professes finding fulfilment in her marriage even though the road to the union was fraught with obstacles that made news.
At a time many celebrity marriages are collapsing, the Kogi-State born thespian is eager to share what she describes as her winning formula.
She says, “It is simply commitment, having a great husband and being submissive as a woman. And I must add knowing how to deal with your differences with love. Motherhood is just the best thing to have happened to me and in no way would I say it has slowed me or my career down.
“I thank God I am a mother because it has given me the opportunity to understand what being a mother is all about and I am extremely glad about that. Motherhood and acting are different responsibilities which I learn to manage well, thanks to God and my husband.”
Before now, Johnson’s figure was the talk of the town and envy of many. She was known for provocative and revealing outfits, with her robust breasts especially threatening to jump out of dresses. In this manner, her photographs were generously displayed on posters and jackets of movies in which she starred. But all that appears to be in the past because she is “now a new creature.”
“Marriage is influencing my dress sense in a more positive way. As I always say my husband is my greatest critic but when it comes to my profession, he understands and has made me grow better than I used to. Sometimes when I look back and see the dresses I wore I laugh real hard and thank God for a blessed and understanding friend, manager and hubby.”
Quite unlike some of her fellow actors, including Genevieve Nnaji and Rita Dominic, who had to play several minor roles before getting their big Mercy’s first attempt in The Maid shot her into limelight. That was in 2004. Since then, she has been having a great time starring in many films.
Ironically, however, she has yet to clinch any ‘juicy’ ambassadorial or endorsement deals, which the likes of Genevieve currently enjoy. She says this does not bother her, though.
“First of all I always remain grateful that I am appreciated and recommended by showbiz personalities and Nigerians. That for me is the biggest endorsement. The other one will come. Keep your fingers crossed. I am humbled, grateful and uplifted and full of gratitude to everyone who ‘Googled’ Mercy Johnson at all times.”
On an endorsement deal she was rumoured to be discussing with the Bank of Industry, she says, “They (BOI) wanted a meeting on a collaborative effort. We honoured the meeting and that was all.”
For now, all that matters to Mercy is how best to expand the activities of her NGO, The Mercy Johnson Foundation for Children and Widows.
She says, “We have been in existence for years but you hardly hear much about it because I chose to make it that way. It does not call for so much noise because it’s another part of my life I do not joke with. Maybe soon, depending on plans, a lot will be heard about the foundation.”
Having starred in over 100 movies, one would expect Mercy to consider shooting her first feature film. In defence, the dark-skinned star says, “Firstly, there is time for everything. Sit, relax and watch me as an executive producer soon.”
Asked to confirm if she was indeed the highest paid Nollywood actress, she simply responded saying, “No comment o, before someone misquotes what I said. I am what I am by the grace of God.”
On another rumour that she is having some spat with some of her colleagues, she notes that she has no problem with anyone.
“I am not fighting with anybody. Last time it was rumoured that Chike Ike and I had issues while we were on set together. We had to take to Twitter to deny it. Tomorrow it will be another person. I am a peaceful person and I believe most of the people in Nollywood are also peaceful.”

I didn’t buy my car on loan – Ice Prince

    Ice Prince
Chocolate City artiste, Ice Prince, talks about fame and music, JAYNE AUGOYE writes
Over time, the ostentatious lifestyle of the average Nigerian artiste has been a source of concern to many music fans. Considering the unstable nature of ‘superstardom,’ it is a common belief that many who fail to plan suffer for it. As such, there appears to be an unending debate over how these artistes manage fame and control their finances.
For 27-year-old Panshak Zamani, also known as Ice Prince or Chocolate City Golden Boy, who lives like a true superstar, there are clearly no limits to how false stories are peddled around many Nigerian artistes.
Ice Prince is the proud owner of a Bentley GT, a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle, among others. Laying to rest some speculations that his Bentley was bought with a loan facility from a bank, the 2013 BET Awards winner says, “No, it is not true! It was paid for! Bought it in Abuja from Sir Kefiano! He has got all brands of vehicles! “
On how he handles his earnings and fame, Ice Prince gives a word of advice to fellow celebrities, “As an artiste, it is good to have real life mentors and people that handle your finances. It is better to put yourself on a salary instead of just blowing the money as it comes and life will be easier.
“You need to also understand that the life of an artiste is usually very expensive. So, One needs to be cautious. It is quite a new experience to have fame and all that. Sometimes it’s a problem managing all of them. But one thing that keeps me focused is that I always remember where I’m coming from, no matter where I am. While there is always pressure to keep up with trends, I believe that it pays more to be yourself and be real to the world around you.”
Despite the fact that he became famous as a hip hop artiste, the singer chooses to be referred to as a musician that raps.
“I really do all kinds of things with my music and I like to dream bigger than just a rapper. I know how to use my voice to sing, chant and do stuff that is not necessarily rap. So I like to be seen more in that light of a guy who can expresses himself with his voice however he feels more comfortable.”
One area which strikes a chord in his heart is what is left of his hometown, Jos. He becomes emotional when asked to speak about his views on the current crisis that has engulfed the once peaceful city.
“It’s really sad because growing up in Jos was like the best thing that ever happened to all of us from that part of the country. It used to be the most peaceful place on earth. It provided us an enabling environment to express ourselves and grow into what we are. So, it is really sad to see what is going on right before us.”
On his relationship with his son, the single father of one says, “My son is a blessing and I’m grateful to God for giving me him. I have a cordial relationship with the mother of his son. We are good, just trying to bring the boy up.”
The singer, who once admitted that he dropped out of the University of Jos where he was studying Zoology because of financial constraint, says he plans to go back to school some day.
“I intend to one day get some real education and study something else apart from what I know now, which is music. But truly, I can’t say when I’m going back to school yet. I pray I get the chance to do so one day. I’ll love to study History,” he says.
Apart from music, he is also involved in some projects. He says, “I am working with a few artistes at the moment under my #SuperCoolCat outfit. This is not a label but a collection of young people with the same dream working together.
“There’s a girl called Ruth Cobhamz who I can’t wait for the world to listen to; an amazing rapper called Stunt and a few producers, such as Sammy Gyang, Chopstix, City monster GRU and TMXO, who just produced my newest track with Joell Ortiz and MI.”

My services are still available – Boko Haram negotiator

    Salkida
Northern-born journalist widely reported to have strong ties with the Boko Haram sect, Ahmad Salkida, has said that he is still readily available to render his services to bring an end to the insurgency in the country.
Salkida was said to be close to the late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, as well as many top shots of the group.
He had since fled to the United Arab Emirates on account of an alleged threat to his life over what he described as his “professional closeness” to the insurgents.
“My first-rate exclusive reports on the insurgency in northern Nigeria served by the Boko Haram militant group unsettled a section of the local authorities. This consequently led to threats to my life. I now live with my family and work part-time in the United Arab Emirates,” a post on his LinkedIn page read.
But, writing on Twitter, Salkida stated that despite being “gagged for doing his work dutifully and lawfully,” he is still willing to make use of his “rare” working relationship with members of the sect to restore peace to northern Nigeria.
According to him, terrorism as seen today in the country is a tactic used by “a few extremists” against an overwhelmingly peaceful population.
“There is nothing wrong in having professional access to insurgents as long as it is used to save lives and promote peaceful co-existence. I will forever be readily available to use my rare professional access and knowledge to end this madness and senseless violence in Nigeria.
“Speculations should not becloud the fact that there are many well-meaning patriots, including myself, that are working quietly day and night for peace. Nigeria is our country. We have no other country to call our own. So let’s get it right. I love Nigeria, I cherish its unity. I will do anything legitimately to make it better than it is, if I can,” he wrote on his Twitter feed.
The 40-year-old who grew up in Maiduguri, Borno State added that the most effective way the Federal Government can fight terrorism was to “study those behind it and review what strategy works and what doesn’t work.”
He also urged Nigerians to unite against the Boko Haram insurgency by not seeing it as a menace ravaging the northern Nigeria but a threat to the entire country.
Calling on Nigerians to render “unconditional support” to the military, he counselled the armed forces to endeavour to be “more accountable” in the ongoing war against the insurgents.
Salkida frowned on summary killing of Boko Haram detainees, saying the development amounted to extrajudicial executions opposed by international laws.
“Is there a good understanding of the structure, composition and lifeline of the Boko Haram by our leaders? Has there been a counter-terrorism strategy in Nigeria that has worked in the last three years beyond summary execution and detention without trial?
“Will the Boko Haram crisis end? It may never be totally eliminated, but a cohesive community that trusts its authorities can curb it. The day we begin to see this war as a threat to Nigeria and not a threat to the Beroms, Christians or Muslims, that is the beginning of our victory,” he added.
Confronting terrorism, he argued, would be futile if the Federal Government does not move to confront “lesser evils” which he reeled out as corruption, electoral fraud and bad governance.
The journalist, who has won grants from organisations such as the Committee to Protect Journalist and Reporters without Borders, carpeted President Goodluck Jonathan for blaming the opposition for terrorism.
“I’m frustrated each time my dear President blames the opposition and the opposition blames him. You all need to sit down in the interest of Nigeria and learn. How can this crisis stop when security and political leaders, with the onus of responsibility for public safety, politicise insurgency?
“This is a case of corrosive doctrine that is poorly managed by the authorities. If effective measures are not taken today, at the end of GEJ’s administration – whether it is General Muhammodu Buhari, (Babatunde) Fashola or Atiku (Abubakar) that is taking over – the crisis will intensify. It’s not who is in power. The central theme of the Boko Haram insurgency is to undermine the institution of democracy and those that support it,” he added in a series of tweets.

Boko Haram attacks police station, army base…kills 40 soldiers, policemen in Yobe

    Boko Haram
Boko Haram insurgents continued their rampage on Monday night, killing 49 security operatives and civilians in two communities in Yobe and Borno states.
In the attack on Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, they left 20 soldiers and 20 policemen dead while in   Chinene, Gwoza LGA of Borno State, they cut the lives of nine civilians short.
The Divisional Police Officer   and the Divisional Crime Officer of the Police Station in Bunu Yadi were believed to be among the victims of the attack by the insurgents who stormed the town with an Armoured Personnel Carrier and Toyota Hilux vans.
Residents said the attackers dressed in camouflage and   hoisted Boko Haram’s flag on the APC and the vans.
They said   the gunmen,   on arrival moved straight to the military formation in the town from where they launched the attack which lasted over two hours.
The attackers were said to have set the military formation, LG secretariat, the divisional police station, the area court, the district head’s residence and office as well as some residential quarters ablaze.
The palace of the Emir, Alhaji Muktar Gangaran, was   also vandalised by the insurgents during the attack, the third on Buni Yadi this year.
One of the residents, who declined to give his name said, “We counted up to 20 dead soldiers and 20 policemen when the attackers left our village after operating for almost two hours.
“They overpowered the   security operatives on duty and also burnt the military base and police station in the town .”
Another resident,   Mallam Modibbo Kawu, said the insurgents told them not to be scared because they were on reprisal against the military.
“They told us not to be afraid because they were in Buni Yadi on a reprisal against   the military for attacking them in Alagarno last week,” he said.
“I can confirm to you that several police, soldiers and mobile policemen were killed. Their corpses were taken to the Damaturu Specialist Hospital,” he said.
But military sources, who asked not to be named, claimed that 14 soldiers and 11 policemen lost their lives.
They   regretted that the attack claimed the lives of many of their colleagues.
Reuters’ account of the attack had it that 24 security personnel lost their lives. It quoted security sources and civilian witness as saying   that the   attack occurred not far from where the insurgents shot or burned to death 59 pupils at a boarding school in February.
The spokesman for the military in Yobe State, Lt. Eli Lazarus, could not be reached for comment on the attack.
The state commissioner of police Mr. Markus K. Danladi,   who visited the scene, said he could not   give the casualty figure because he was still getting the details.
In Chinene,     the insurgents killed nine civilians,   and set ablaze churches and residential buildings.
They   were said to have hoisted their flag on some structures in Ashigashiya ward in the community, thus depicting its conquest.
According to sources, many   people sustained serious bullet wounds while   others were forced to take refuge in nearby bushes and surrounding hills.
An LG   official, Nglamuda Ibrahim, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri, said many of his extended family members and friends displaced in the attack had been calling for assistance since Monday night.
Ibrahim said, “As we speak now, I am still receiving distress calls from them; they are all calling for help. No soldier and no policeman   had gone there yet.’’
“The Boko Haram gunmen mounted their flags in Ashigashiya ward   showing that it was now under their control.
“Last night, six churches were burnt, eight persons were killed   and several others seriously injured. We cannot count the number of houses that were burnt in Chinene village of Chikide-Joghode-Kaghum ward.
“The insurgents also attacked Amuda village in Chikide-Joghode-Kaghum ward where one person was killed and several others injured.
“All we are doing now is calling on the military authorities in the state to quickly go up there and help us rescue those poor villagers, their wives and children.”
He listed the names of some of those killed in Chinene village as Bulama Dajiba, Bulama John, Haruna Wadda, Bitrus Kurma, Haruna Kwatha, Haruna Waruda, and Shaibu Galva.
A top security officer, who did not want his name in print, said, “We all have received the report from Chinene village. It was really another sad episode and we learnt that the insurgents hoisted their flag in Ashigashiya.”
The Police Public Relations Officer,   Gideon Jubrin, could not be reached as all his telephone lines were switched off.
Meanwhile, former president Olusegun Obasanjo has met with people close to Boko Haram in an attempt to secure the release of the   schoolgirls kidnapped in Chibok by the sect.
The meeting which took place last weekend at Obasanjo’s farm in   Ogun State, had   the   relatives of some senior Boko Haram fighters and     intermediaries in attendance, Agence France Presse quoted a source on Tuesday as saying .
“The meeting was focused on how to free the girls through negotiation,” said the source who requested anonymity.
Obasanjo had previously sought to negotiate with the insurgents after Boko Haram bombed the United Nations headquarters in Abuja.
Then, he flew to   Maiduguri to meet relatives of former Boko Haram leader Mohammed Yusuf, who was killed in police custody in 2009.
The 2011 talks did not help stem the violence and some at the time doubted if Obasanjo was dealing with people who were legitimately capable of negotiating a ceasefire.
A source told AFP that Obasanjo had voiced concern about Nigeria’s acceptance of foreign military personnel to help rescue the girls.
He was quoted to have said he was worried that Nigeria’s prestige in Africa as a major continental power had been diminished by President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to bring in Western military help, including from the United States.
Mustapha Zanna, the lawyer who helped organise Obasanjo’s 2011 talks with Boko Haram, said he was at the former President’s home on Saturday.
But he declined to discuss whether the Chibok abductions were on the agenda.
“I was there,” he told AFP, adding that Obasanjo was interested in helping orphans and vulnerable children in   troubled North-East.
It was not clear if Obasanjo’s weekend meeting had been sanctioned by the government.
According to a source, Obasanjo supported a prisoner-for-hostage swap that would see the abducted girls released in exchange for a group of Boko Haram fighters.
Meanwhile, Cameroon has deployed some 1,000 troops and Armoured Personnel Carriers in its border region with Nigeria to counter a rising threat from Boko Haram.
“Their mission will be to carry out reconnaissance and be ready to respond with enough fire power,” Cameroon’s Army spokesman, Lt.Col. Didier Badjeck, told Reuters by telephone from Yaounde on Tuesday.
Boko Haram, which outraged international opinion with the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State on April 14,   has also carried out attacks in northern Cameroon.
